Hotels

Recommended by ASAWA Forum Members

One of the most popular sections in the ASAWA forum is "Travel to and from the Philippines," and within that section, the question is often posed, "Can anyone recommend a good hotel that they've stayed at?"

For that reason, I spent a few hours searching through all the Travel section posts and compiled a list of hotels that forum members have stayed at and recommend to others. I've also included as much information as I could find on those hotels, such as their addresses (web and physical), phone and fax numbers, and Email addresses, as well as brief descriptions of the accommodations (in italics). Most of the descriptions come from the hotels' websites, but if I was unable to locate a hotel's website, I paraphrased the description of the hotel given by the poster who recommended it in the forum.

The costs given are in U.S. dollars, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Rates change all the time, and the cost of a room depends greatly on the time of year you're going to the Philippines, the occupancy level, the perks you want, the exchange rate, and a million other things. Always check with the hotel to get the latest rates. Also, always ask what the cost of a room is with tax, since the taxes on hotel rooms in the Philippines are VERY high and will constitute a significant portion of your overall bill!

Tiara Oriental Hotel: "At the northern limit of Makati, behind the Fire Station. It's a bit far from the malls and restaurants (you'll need a taxi, but you won't need to wait too long for one). The cost in not too expensive - 1700PHP ($34) if reserved via the Internet, 2200PHP ($44) at the desk, both without breakfast. You get all the services of a first class hotel. I've never had any problem.  Good bedrooms. Only drawback is that the area is not too well known by taxi drivers, and I have to direct them how to get there at times (but I have always my city map with me, just in case)." http://www.asiatravel.com/philippines/tiaraoriental/index.html

Davao

Apo View Hotel: A forum member writes: "Staff was very friendly, prompt, honest. All I had to do was ask for their best rate, and they gave me a nice room for 1600 ($32) a night. A/C worked great, as did cable TV. Room rate includes free breakfast for 2. Location was good, too. Right in the heart of Downtown. Easy walking distance to feed, beer, Internet cafes, and a shopping mall across the street."
